DAAX

WE ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION! BE BACK IN SEPTEMBER.

Daax Gjergji, born 1993, is a queer immigrant writer and interdisciplinary artist working with pattern making in a diaspora between the Balkans and raised by the Bronx. They primarily work in essay, autofiction, mixed media and analog photography.

Daax is currently an MFA candidate in Image Text where they have learned from talented mentors such as Erica Hunt  and held community with incredibly talented peers working across creative disciplines. Daax is currently working on a collection of essays, learning to spend time in their Mamiya RZ67 and working through the archive.

Daax’s work is concerned with the preservation of autochtonous community and culture, the invasion of the socio-political into intimate space, the family home as psychological architecture, the sociological impact of language, etymology as ancestral discovery, intergenerational gifts and curses, childhoods of the disapora, the self as unfixed and memories manifest.

Daax’s work has been published in No, Dear Magazine, Oranbeg Press, Porridge Magazine and O Gocë Magazine. They have also shown work at the Aperture Foundation for an exhibit featuring Balkan artists in October of 2018.
